I ate a lot of really delicious foods on the cruise but my favorite was our trip to the steakhouse. For today’s Foodie Friday post I thought I would share about our steakhouse experience!
We cruised on the Carnival Valor ship which has two main dining rooms, a lido deck buffet, and of course room service 24/7. The ship also has a special steakhouse that you can pay a little extra for & in return get a 2 hour fancy feast. We did the steakhouse on our honeymoon cruise (Carnival Pride) and loved it, so we knew we would want to do it again!
We started out with ordering a bottle of wine. We ordered a very sweet white wine from Italy and it was so delicious! I loved that they put it in the fancy ice bucket by the table! They even poured it for us–no work required!
Next, we received our choice of bread (I chose foccacia) and had three spreads for the bread. We had a garlic and tomato spread, butter, and olive oil and eggplant. My favorite was the eggplant spread. I loved it so much that I forgot to take a picture of the bread portion–oops!
They brought out our compliments of the chef. I had a roasted tomato basil soup with a tiny little cracker. It was super flavorful and fresh; I was hoping for a whole bowl full after the little taster!
Next I had a crab cake on a bed of roasted corn. I’ve had a lot of crab cakes and this one was really good. I always hate when crab cakes dry out or don’t have enough seasoning. This was really delicious especially with the corn underneath. The lime juice made it really refreshing after a long day in the sun!
My salad choice was a tomato salad with Gorgonzola crumbles and a balsamic dressing. I must say, this is one of the tastiest salads I’ve ever had! This also could be due to the fact that I haven’t had a big fresh tomato since the summer! I survive on canned diced tomatoes and grape or cherry tomatoes for salads during the winter. It was delicious to just enjoy some big old slices of tomatoes!
My entree selection was the surf and turf. It included a 9 oz filet mignon and a lobster tail. I ordered the steak medium rare and it was soooooooo juicy, flavorful, and basically melted in my mouth. It was cooked so well that I didn’t even use any kind of steak sauce. The lobster tail was also flavorful and wasn’t dried out like so many restaurants do. I of course dipped the lobster tail in to some delicious melted butter!
I ordered a baked potato for my side and topped it with butter, chives, and bacon. It was also really delicious. I basically never eat bacon but decided to enjoy it since I was on vacation. At least it wasn’t fake bacon bits! 🙂 I did not eat the sour cream.
For dessert I got coffee and the chocolate sampler. It came with bittersweet chocolate cake, banana pannacotta, (Daniel ate some of that one, not me!) tiramisu, and chocolate marquis! It was really delicious. My favorite was the bittersweet chocolate cake as I prefer darker chocolates.
If anyone is planning on cruising on a carnival cruise, I’d highly recommend enjoying the steakhouse. It’s such a fun experience and it’s so nice to feel fancy and taken care of for a night! They have vegetarian options that I’ve heard are also delicious and they have meat that isn’t steak for those of you who aren’t in to steak! I hope you enjoyed this little vacation edition of foodie Friday. If not, I promise that I’ll be back with regular recipes next week! 🙂
