WIAW + Be Well Philly Boot Camp

Breakfast 7:30 am:

I woke up with my stomach growling painfully loud, so I had lots of water and toasted a GF waffle topped with peanut butter. I did not drink any coffee because I didn’t want to get dehydrated. 

We checked in, signed our waivers, and then got our “swag bags” filled with gym deals, advertisements, a bottle of sparkling water , and a really nice reusable bag. The “swag bag” itself will make a great beach bag or gym tote too. Everyone was really quick to check us in and very friendly and welcoming. I was so excited!! 

Breakfast Part 2 9 am:

They had a catered breakfast from “Snap Kitchen” for us once we checked in. I went for a chia pudding with strawberries pistachios and chocolate. I didn’t end up eating the entire cup, but thought it was pretty good. It’s definitely a texture to get used to. 

Once we were done eating, we walked over to the marketplace area filled with different vendors. We walked around checking out the different products and enjoying the sites. I was sure to buy the official Be Well Philly Boot Camp tank top at the marketplace too! I sampled some beet and ginger juice at one of the stands and it was delicious!

Our first class of the day was the “Stripp’d Cardio Core” workout with instructors from Ploome Fitness & Lifestyle Boutique. We used towels as a fun prop and had a blast shaking and dancing around. It was a good workout!

Second class was the “Beyonce Boot Camp” with Jayel Lewis as our instructor. This was definitely my favorite class of the day. Jayel was great at giving us encouragement while still pushing and challenging us through the class. The playlist was really motivating and the class flew by. Everyone was a sweaty mess at the end, and I truly loved it.

Third class was a Hip Hop Yoga class with Three Queens Yoga studio. I have done a lot of yoga classes before, but never one with this kind of flair. There was a DJ who spun hip hop music during the yoga class. While I did enjoy the music selections, I thought it was tough to relax my mind with that kind of music playing in the background. However, I did love that we were able to stretch after the other two classes. Had this been another cardio class, I might not have made it through!

Lunch 1:00 pm:

After three 45 minute sweat sessions in a row, to say I was hungry would be an understatement! We grabbed our box lunches and sat on the lawn to listen to the “Empower Hour” speaker while we ate. I grabbed the gluten free vegan lunch option which was roasted veggies and hummus on GF bread, a quinoa salad, and a pear. Everything was flavorful and delicious and I really appreciated that they had a filling GF option there!

The empower hour speaker was our Beyonce Boot Camp instructor Jayel Lewis, so I was excited to hear her speech. She spoke a lot about fear and overcoming what we fear the most. She also encouraged women to voice their fears and support one another. She shared her personal story which was filled with obstacles and life changes and I enjoyed hearing her encouraging message.

I took away two major things from this boot camp experience:

  1. I’m stronger than I give myself credit for: I did things that I didn’t know my body was capable of doing. I felt strong and fit and was proud of everything I accomplished that day. I think sometimes we need to remember all that our bodies can do and not always dwell on the things we wish it could do. I’m strong, I’m capable, I’m fit. 
  2. Be Kind to One Another: So often, women make judgments about other women. We size each other up, we compare, we get jealous, we gossip. Let’s take all of that energy and be more positive. Compliment each other, encourage one another, and lift one another up. Every woman has their own battles and you don’t know what they may be going through.

 Overall, the boot camp was amazing and I hope to go again in the future. Thanks to Be Well Philly for a wonderful day of learning and workin’ it out! 

Snack 3:45pm:

I was starving when I got home, so I ate a Kind bar that I got at the event and slathered it in almond butter. Yummy!

Dinner 6:00pm:

For dinner, I made two pieces of avocado toast topped with a fried egg and black pepper. I also cut up two small sweet potatoes and seasoned them with garlic powder and nutritional yeast. I then cleaned up dinner, watched two shows, and promptly passed out for the night at 9:15pm. Slept like a rock!

Remember, you are stronger than you think you are and capable of more things than you give yourself credit for!

  1. This is sounds awesome! I would love to do something like this. I need to look in my area to find out if there is anything similar.
    I would have been STARVED after those three classes- good thing you had a yummy sandwich!

  2. That sounds like a really fun event! I wish we had things like that close to where I live. I would be all about it!! You’re right about chia pudding. It does take some getting used too. It also needs a lot of extra flavor!

    • Guess you’ll have to come to Philly and we can have a blogger par-tay! 😀 Yea, this chia pudding’s strawberry tasted more like a strawberry jam…i think i would have liked it more if it were fresh strawberries and chocolate…maybe also without pistachios? It was a really intense combo haha
